Safety Award

Cherie Berry, N.C. Department of Labor, presents the award to LMC representatives.

(LEXINGTON, N.C.-June 13, 2012-)Wake Forest Baptist Health-Lexington Medical Center was among 30 employers honored Tuesday during the annual North Carolina Safety Awards presentation held at the Thomasville Woman's Club. The event, sponsored by the N.C. Department of Labor and the Thomasville Area Chamber of Commerce, highlights outstanding on-the-job safety achievements during 2011 for businesses in Lexington, Denton, Thomasville, Mocksville and Salisbury.

Lexington Medical Center received its second consecutive Silver Award in recognition of outstanding safety and health efforts that resulted in a substantial reduction of injuries and illness and its ongoing efforts to promote a safe working environment.

Cherie Berry, North Carolina Commissioner of Labor, presented the award. As a Silver Award winner, Lexington Medical Center maintained an incident rate of at least fifty percent below the average for its particular industry.

"It's great to see everybody that's making things happen in North Carolina," Berry said while making the presentation. She noted that the safety awards represent the importance of following regulations and guidelines during work.

Providing a safe work environment for the employees of Lexington Medical Center is of utmost importance and a philosophy that receives support from top to bottom. It is the combined effort of all employees and a top-of-mind awareness of safety issues that contributed to the recent statewide recognition.

Lexington Medical Center emphasizes safety. Education on how to maintain a safe environment is a significant portion of a multi-day orientation for new employees. In addition, all employees are required to complete annual computer based training modules that focus on disease prevention and the safety of patients, visitors and staff.
