Claudiu A. Cimpean, M.D., to see patients in Lexington and Thomasville
LEXINGTON, NC--(May 16, 2012) Claudiu A. Cimpean, M.D., F.A.C.S, has joined Davidson Surgical Associates, a general surgery practice with offices in Lexington and Thomasville. He is the second surgeon to join the practice this year. Steven J. Muscoreil, M.D., joined the practice in February.

Formed more than 15 years ago in Thomasville, Davidson Surgical Associates is recognized as the largest surgery practice in Davidson County and formally affiliated with Wake Forest Baptist Health earlier this year. Mark D. Smith. M.D., Brian C. Lewis, M.D., and Eric D. Lance, M.D., opened a satellite practice on the campus of Wake Forest Baptist Health-Lexington Medical Center last year. The addition of Muscoreil and Cimpean enables the practice to provide 24/7 surgical coverage at both Lexington Medical Center and Thomasville Medical Center.
All of the surgeons in the group are certified by the American Board of Surgery and are Fellows in the American College of Surgeons. Each will rotate through offices located at 5 Medical Park in Lexington and 1219 Lexington Avenue in Thomasville.
In making the announcement, Eric D. Lance, M.D., who serves as spokesman for the surgical group, welcomed Dr. Cimpean to both the practice and the community. "We are pleased to welcome our new partner," he said. "Dr. Cimpean has broad-based general surgery experience and has been trained in advanced laparoscopic and hernia surgery. In addition, he shares our commitment to family and God, and we are pleased to welcome him into our practice."
Lance said the addition of Cimpean and Muscoreil to the Davidson Surgical practice strengthens their mission to provide general surgical care to patients countywide."We want to be known for the quality of modern surgical care we provide patients," he said.
Dr. Cimpean left his post as a professor of surgery at Texas Tech University of the Permian Basin in Texas to join the practice. Prior to that post, he was in private practice in Iowa and New Mexico.
He completed his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Iuliu Hatieganu" in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Cimpean trained in general surgery at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, Wayne State University School of Medicine in Pontiac, Michigan, where he also completed his general surgery residency.
He is certified by the American Board of Surgeons and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He holds memberships in the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
Dr. Cimpean and his wife have three children who range in age from 10 to 3 years. He is a U.S. citizen.
The surgeons at Davidson Surgical Associates treat a variety of conditions including cancer, diverticulitis, gallbladder and hernia problems. They offer both traditional and minimally-invasive surgical methods. At Lexington Medical Center, the group has partnered with Wake Forest Baptist Health plastic surgeon, Ivo Pestana, M.D., to provide immediate breast reconstruction surgery.
