Wound Care Center Chosen Among Nation’s Best for 5th Straight Year

WC 2018

Lexington Medical Center’s Wound Care Center has won national recognition for the fifth consecutive year.

Healogics, Inc., which manages 700 wound care centers, named our Wound Care Center as both a Center of Distinction and a winner of the Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence honor. Only wound care centers that have been a Center of Distinction for at least two years are eligible to be chosen as a Center of Excellence.

For our Wound Care Center, it is the fifth straight Center of Distinction designation and fourth consecutive Center of Excellence award. The latter award is named after Warriner, a pioneer in wound care and the former chief medical officer for Healogics.

The two awards reflect the consistency of our Wound Care Center, which treats patients for diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds that have not healed in a reasonable amount of time.

The 268 Center of Excellence winners were chosen from among 340 wound care centers managed by Healogics. Winning centers have all maintained 12-month patient satisfaction ratings of higher than 92 percent and a wound healing rate of at least 91 percent within 30 days.

“We really try to do the steps in wound healing that have proven to be effective and make a difference in getting results,” says Physician for the Wound Care Center, Victor Farrah, DO.

Because chronic wounds respond differently in each patient and healing can be inconsistent, members of the care team “are constantly re-evaluating and changing treatments to improve patient results,” Dr. Farrah says.

Among the advanced treatments used at the Wound Care Center are hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy and special wound dressings.

Dr. Farrah is proud of the work being done by his team, which sees about 80-100 patients a week.

“Healogics is the biggest wound care management company in the world. It demands excellence and results,” Dr. Farrah says. “The fact that we’re at the top is pretty nice.”

Last fall, Lexington Medical Center was ranked No. 3 in the nation among 124 community hospitals for quality and accountability by Vizient, Inc., the largest health care performance improvement company in the country. The Wound Care Center’s recognition by Healogics is continuing evidence of our commitment to patient- and family-centered care. Congratulations to the Wound Care Center team.
